VA Firefighter Injured Battling Church Blaze

Chesapeake firefighters needed nearly three hours to bring under control the blaze that broke out and extensively damaged the Gabriel Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church.

A Virginia firefighter was injured during a church blaze early Friday.

When Chesapeake crews reached the scene shortly after 2 a.m., heavy smoke and flames were coming from the Gabriel Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, WAVY-TV reports. The fire did extensive damage to the church.

A firefighter suffered minor injuries battling the blaze and was treated at the scene and released. It took crews nearly to get the flames under control, WAVY added.
